Charlie is spending the summer with LACE Partners as an intern and today he’s given us some insight . Even before I had officially started…
I was invited to the Summer Party at Swingers Mini Golf. I formed a #TeamYouth mini golf team with former summer interns and even though we didn’t win, the icebreaker instantly made me feel part of the team. Getting to know people before I officially started has been key to feeling confident in being able to contribute to projects and tasks in my first week.
My first day…
I instantly noticed the open office and flat structure, which I’ve now learnt is such a key aspect of LACE’s culture. There are no set desks and everyone switches up where they sit on a larger central workspace. It’s a very different atmosphere to any of my previous work experiences. One day you can be working with your team in the meeting rooms and another you can be sitting next to the Exec team on the main table. It means that every day you can be sitting next to someone different, which helps to build relationships with people across the company.
This week at LACE I’ve…
Been getting up to speed with my project team who are designing a ‘Business As Usual Support Model’ for one of our clients. My job; to help create workshop content. If you’re new to consulting like me that means helping to design the way a company can integrate the ongoing maintenance and development of technology into their daily life, post initial implementation.
I have also been exposed to how the company runs, even heading off to a strategy meeting with the CEO, Aaron Alburey. There is so much more I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you…
High and low for the week…
High: The charity bake sale to raise money for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society. It was great to see the outreach side of LACE and everyone getting involved in baking and raising money for a good cause.*
Low: It’s difficult to point to a low from such a great week, but a challenge I’ve encountered is adjusting to the intensive nature of consulting work. It’s been a fast-paced week but I am confident I will adapt.
I couldn’t have asked for a better first week. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer will hold. Stay tuned for more posts from the series.
