Preparing for SWP: Choices, challenges, and change

This invitation-only executive roundtable was for senior HR leaders who are preparing to begin strategic workforce planning—or are already underway and want to benchmark, share lessons, and refine their approach. We focused on the early choices that matter—defining the business problem (capacity, capability, or cost), setting governance and cadence, and aligning stakeholders—while comparing what’s working in more mature programmes.

Whether you are at step one or step ten, you’ll cut through data-readiness myths, prioritise the right first use cases, and plan early wins that build sponsorship—keeping people at the centre throughout.

Topics discussed include:

    • Clarify the choices for new starters (scope, operating model, governance, cadence) and stress-test approaches for those already executing.

    • Anticipate the challenges: data “good enough,” stakeholder alignment, funding, resourcing, and momentum beyond the first ninety days.

    • Plan the change: adoption tactics, communications, and early wins that link SWP to real business decisions.

    • Learn from peers: compare playbooks, pitfalls, and patterns that deliver value—so newcomers start strong and experienced teams sharpen their roadmap.
